The History of Earth Day

With April comes Easter, longer days in the sunshine and Earth Day. Earth Day is an annual event on April 22nd where people around the world demonstrate support for environmental protection and conservation.

Earth Day is an opportunity for people around the globe to be conscious of their carbon footprint and make plans as a community to build a better and more sustainable future for everyone.

The first Earth Day was held in San Francisco in 1970 after the Senator at the time called for the local college campuses to raise nationwide awareness of environmental issues. This first Earth Day led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA.

Earth Day became an official global event in 1990.

What Is The Theme of Earth Day 2023?

This year, the theme for Earth Day is Invest In Our Planet. It hopes to focus people on diversifying, educating, and activating the environmental movement worldwide.

This year’s theme is putting a huge onus on the business and political climate and how we can all take action to preserve and protect our health, families, and the world as a team.

How Can We Help On Earth Day This Year?

As a leader in creating eco-friendly and sustainably sourced leather, we have a few tips on how you can help and make a difference this year for Earth Day and beyond.

  • Go vegan. By ditching all animal products from your diet, you alone will be helping to cut the massive contributions to serious environmental problems. The UN has published its findings regarding livestock production and has outlined it as one of the worst contributors to environmental problems.

  • You can remove animal products from your diet by having meat-free Monday meals, making clever swaps in your baking, and even incrementally. Every small change adds up to a huge change!

  • Join a cleanup. Whether you live by the coast, in rural forests, or in suburbia, you can do your bit by simply getting out there and cleaning any mess and litter away. Find your local clean-up crew here

  • Invest in reusable carrier bags for your shopping - and use them for every shop. You can buy canvas and longer-life bags in your local supermarket for a cheap price. By using these over and over again in favor of single-use plastic you can help to keep the world a little greener

  • Don’t use fast fashion. The fashion industry is moving away from fast fashion and you can too easily. Go through your wardrobe and see what you can re-wear, sell and recycle. Look into second-hand stores, charity shops, and thrift stores.
