Why You Should Start Planning Your New Year’s Resolutions?

new year resolutions

Did you know that people who make new year’s resolutions are almost 10 times more likely to actually accomplish their life goals than those who don’t?

New year’s resolutions have somehow gotten a bad reputation. We laugh at the friend who says they want to quit smoking, or the cousin who says they want to start their own business. Why is that? Because people have a tendency to slack off, get lazy, and neglect working towards a goal. When someone says they want to change something about themselves, we just don’t believe them!

We believe that new year’s resolutions are very powerful. We believe that when a person takes some time to reevaluate themselves and visualize their goals, those objectives become a lot more achievable. It turns past mistakes into future learning opportunities, and what seems like an overly ambitious far-fetched aim into a palpable future.

That being said, merely setting a plan is not enough. It is the correct first step, but in order to get things done, one needs motivation, resilience, and a whole lot of work.

How We Do it at Caddyboo?

We know that the past year has been anything but ordinary, yet we still managed to accomplish quite a lot together. We’ve mentioned how important it is to set professional goals, and have no plans to slow down in 2021. Here’s how we plan to do it, and how you can do it with us:

1. We plan in detail

The talents working behind the scenes never throw caution to the wind. Every decision we take is carefully discussed, analyzed, and revised by several people. Whether it’s for signing on new ambassadors or making new collaborations, we ensure that every step we take carries our company values with it, and that we never stray from our mission, vision, or company culture.

The more clearly-laid out your plan is, the much more likely you are to want to do it. Meticulousness leaves no space for grey areas or question marks. What’s even more important is that you continue to reevaluate your plan according to your needs. Don’t be too rigid and remind yourself to be flexible when the situation asks for it.

2. We leave room for individual creativity

The Caddyboo team comprises people from very different backgrounds and skills, and who live in very different parts on the planet. Every individual team member has been exposed to an array of different experiences, and we encourage them to bring them to the table. This is how we never slow down. This is how we continue to create, innovate, and grow.

Executing objectives comes with bouts of uncertainty, and we are sometimes forced to resort to our creative juices in going about it. If one way of doing something just doesn’t work out, it’s not the end of the world. We all have it in us to think of what no one else has!

3. We stay on top of our OKRs

Twice a month, each Caddyboo team member is required to give a detailed description of their objectives and key results, namely whether or not they were accomplished. Allowing ourselves to visualize our progress and communicate it to all team members allows for the adaptation of our plans, the reallocation of our resources, and helps us stay on top of things.

Measuring your progress periodically is a good place to start. You’ll realize why some time periods are more productive for you than others, what you accomplished, and who helped you get there. Make note of what works for you, and what you should avoid. One step at a time, you’ll get there!

4. We set SMART goals

And by SMART, we don't mean just smart. The objectives we set are all specific, measurable, assignable, relevant, and time-based. It is very easy to say you want to achieve something, without properly determining what that thing is. We never set goals that are unrealistic and demotivating, but we still aim high.

It is important that everything in your life lives up to a certain standard, and that should include your goals. Continue to ask yourself: “is this going in the direction I want it to? Am I pushing myself too hard? What can I do to turn this into a learning process?”

5. We stay motivated

The moment we start to lose focus, we get back on track by doing one very simple thing: asking ourselves what. What led us to start doing this in the first place? What are we doing this for? What would be improved if we continued to do what we’re doing? Realising your dreams is one of the toughest tasks you’ll ever have to confront but is also arguably the most fulfilling.

If it gets too hard, remind yourself why you’re doing it: because you wanted to, because it’s good for you, and most importantly, because you can.

6. We work as a team

As Henry Ford once put it, “if everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.”  At the end of the day, a brand is nothing without its human resources, and the company’s progress is heavily dependent on the progress of its single members. Team members are always there to help one another out, inspire each other when inspiration is lacking, and advise one another on how to move forward.

It’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Reach out to the people closest to you, and let them in on your plan. Allow them to keep you in check while also keeping you grounded. Let them carry you through the rough times, and celebrate victories together, regardless of how big or small.

The question remains: why should you start planning your new year’s resolutions?

Because you’re in control. It is your action plan. We know that life tends to have a quirky sense of humor, and we never know what it might throw at us. Writing down your goals and planning on how to accomplish them allows you take the wheel and steer your life in the direction you want.

So, start now, because as in the words of Vernon McLellan:

What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.
